Specimen Collection Type
Adults: Prefer 2 sets (1 aerobic, 1 anaerobic per set), with at
least 1 set drawn from a peripheral site.
Patient weighing <30lbs (14kg) or if limited blood available: 1
pediatric bottle
Minimum Collection Volume
Adults: 10 mL per bottle
Pediatrics: 1-3 mL per bottle

Interpretation
If positive, Blood Culture Molecular Detction (BCID) will be performed at an additional charge.
Positive cultures are reported with organism identification.
Susceptibility will be performed as appropriate.
Negative cultures will be incubated 5 days before a final negative
report.
