Specimen Collection Type

Raw stool in a sterile container or Para-Pak (C&S) vial (do not fill past the line on the vial)

Bristol stool types 1-7

For optimal results, raw stool should be placed in Para-Pak (C&S) vial immediately.

Interpretation

A positive result indicates the presence of Cryptosporidium antigen.

A negative result indicates that Cryptosporidium antigen is absent or below the lower limits of detection of the assay.

Testing of at least 2 consecutive stool specimens is recommended before considering the results negative.

Rejection Criteria

Parasite testing is not performed on patients hospitalized >3 days.
