Test Code HIVD HIV 1/2 Antibody Differentiation

Clinical Indications

The Geenius HIV-1/2 antibody differentiation is used to confirm the presence of HIV-1 and/or HIV-2 antibodies in specimens reactive by the HIV-1/2 antibody and antigen screen (4th generation). The assay may also be used to confirm the presence of HIV-1 and/or HIV-2 antibodies in pediatric subjects ( ≥ 2 years).

Interpretation

HIV-1 Result HIV-2 Result Serological Interpretation Comment
Nonreactive Nonreactive Indeterminate. The specimen is reactive by initial screen and non-reactive for HIV antibodies by differentiation assay. HIV nucleic acid testing (HIV-1 quant PCR; HIVUS) is recommended. A new specimen and order are required.
Indeterminate Nonreactive Indeterminate. The specimen is reactive by initial screen and indeterminate for HIV-1 antibodies by differentiation assay. HIV nucleic acid testing (HIV-1 quant PCR: HIVUS) is recommended. A new specimen and order are required.
Nonreactive Indeterminate Indeterminate. The specimen is reactive by initial screen and indeterminate for HIV-2 antibodies by differentiation assay. HIV-2 nucleic acid testing is recommended. A new specimen and order are required.
Indeterminate Indeterminate Indeterminate. The specimen is reactive by initial screen and indeterminate for HIV antibodies by differentiation assay. HIV nucleic acid testing (HIV-1 quant PCR; HIVUS) is recommended. A new specimen and order are required.
Reactive Nonreactive HIV-1 infection. HIV nucleic acid testing (HIV-1 quant PCR; HIVUS) is recommended. A new specimen and order are required.
Reactive Indeterminate HIV-1 infection. HIV-2 indeterminate result is likely due to cross-reactivity of HIV-1 antibodies on HIV-2 antigens and confirmation of HIV-2 is not required. HIV nucleic acid testing (HIV-1 quant PCR; HIVUS) is recommended. A new specimen and order are required.
Nonreactive Reactive HIV-2 infection. HIV-2 nucleic acid testing is recommended. A new specimen and order are required.
