Interpretation

A positive result suggests current or past infection. Culture is recommended to confirm current active infection. Clinical correlation and patient history must be considered when evaluating results.

A negative result does not exclude the possibility of infection with Legionella species. Antigen may not be present in urine in early infection. The level of antigen may be below the limit of detection. This test will not detect infections caused by other L. pneumophila serogroups and by other Legionella species.
