Clinical Indications

Mycoplasma genitalium is a sexually-transmitted bacterium belonging to the class Mollicutes. It lives on the epithelial cells of the urinary and genital tracts of men and women. M. genitalium is difficult to culture, the CDC recommends the use of NAATs for detection. M. genitalium has a macrolide resistance rate between 44-90%. Macrolide Resistance testing is not currently available at TUKHS, please see https://www.cdc.gov/std/treatment-guidelines/mycoplasmagenitalium.htm for treatment guidelines
